Dear all, welcome on GPWiki running on wordpress.
First things first, security.
- After your first log in, please head to your phone and download the “google authenticator” app.
- Go to users –> profile
- Yes the admin (me) is requesting you to activate 2-factor authentication, please click on it. (if you don’t have the link, just click on the left side Profile)
- Please generate password, i would love it if you could use one of the passwords generated by the app. But generally the longer the better please.
- Click Generate Key , then click QR code, then take a picture with you phone.
- You will get this app that keeps refreshing numbers on your phone, then you are done.
- Next time when you try to log in, key the 6 digit number inside the third column.
- Contact me if got problem!
First things first, check out your level of authorisation, ie your user type: under users–>Profile, or just Profile on the left panel. If you are just a “subscriber”, you can only comment and read but cannot post. Please contact us if you want to post or edit.
Otherwise, your account should have different levels of authorisation, for example: as a admin/editor: edit everything, author: only your own posts, contributor: can write, but cannot post. Doesn’t really matter, your input will go somewhere, don’t worry.
Post VS Pages
There really isn’t much of a difference there, but please write under Posts, for ease of organizing the things. Pages are more for “landing pages” ie. the signup page, contact form, page that is kind of disjointed from everywhere. Try to click Posts–> Add New (or All Posts–> Edit Post).
“What you see is what you get” editor, that’s exactly the magic of wordpress!
Once you click add new post or edit post, you will be brought to this beautiful interface.
Whoaaaa, simply, mindblowingly overwhelmingly full of stuff. Don’t worry, that’s why we are here to help! Ok we will go from top to bottom, left to right.
Right at the top, left hand corner, write a title that succinctly tells us what your article is about.
Edit to change it to something shorter and nicer and easier to remember. This is your post’s permanent space or address on the large internet. So do me a favour, write something short. You can link long words with a dash like gpwiki.com/the-greatest-gp-on-earth.
Sorry guys, this one if off bounds for now, until i have finished my tutorial on media below. Basically you are able to upload photos, documents, PDF and videos, but they can slow down the site. I will need to show you guys how to optimise it first. If you need to add a media, just email me or whatsapp me or whatever first.
This one adds a “ninja form”, like the forms that you fill up to join a mailing list, or to join us or you can add whatever form you like customized to your needs. <another tutorial on google forms to optimise workflow>
I don’t suggest you touch this, unless you know code (not difficult to learn).
The toolbar starting with “Paragraph”
I think this one should be quite familiar with anyone who has used word. Please help me by adding headers, going from the largest header to the smallest, you don’t have to start with header 1 if you find that its too BIG for your needs, but as you go down the hierarchy, please try to use a smaller and smaller header as you go down. Thank you very much.
The rest on the toolbar like: bold, italics, bulleted list, numbered list, blockquotes, align left, centralised, align right should be the usual.
Insert Link/Remove Link
Please use this with caution, please link only to trusted websites and make sure the link works. The site can be penalized heavily for this. If you are not sure how to use it, you could write <link the-website-you-want-to-link.com > or something, then later I will add it in for you.
If you could help me, you can click link options and select “open link in another window” as well.
I will cover them below.
Theme SEO settings
SEO stands for search engine optimisation. You could help me fill up the title and meta description. These are the things that will show up on a google search. Please keep the title short and the meta is restricted to only 160 chars please.
SEO can be a double edged sword. We are currently not for profit, if Dr google decides to bring us more web traffic, we might have to seriously put some money on the table to pay for hosting fees (either that or i have to monetize it somehow). So in short, i’m not going to optimise the SEO for now. This site currently remains active for our own use.
Panels on the right side
You could save the “status” as a draft or pending review or post it. (some users might not be authorised to post)
You could select the “visibility” as public, password or private. Some of the pages that are not ready for public eyes yet will be posted under private, so users have to be logged in to see. But please bear in mind, anything written on the internet can never stay fully private, so be mindful of what you write.
Try to tick a most relevant category for your article or add a new category. Would help us a lot.
Shortcodes[what are shortcodes]
Sorry, please DO NOT upload any pictures directly yet, send to me, i will deal with it for now
For executive pro
portfolio icons: 600×400
Aspect ratio: 2×3 or 4×6
slider: 1140 x 445 (left side might cut off)
1000 x 450 px featured image
600 x 140 px header image
For Infinity pro
background x 5, 1600px x 1050px
Same as above.
Contact me first.
Err. Sorry this is embarrassing, i don’t have time to make short codes for everything yet, these codes are for my own reference only, you can ignore them unless you want to get your hands dirty.
